As Director of Communications, Raytevia Evans is responsible for leading VOANS’ communications and media relations strategies and amplifying the organization’s impact on communities across the nation.
Raytevia’s career spans over a diverse communications landscape over the past 12 years. Previously, she was the senior public information officer for the Alexandria Fire Department for six years. While serving as the Senior PIO for the fire department, she was the creative director for the department’s video series The Faces of the Alexandria Fire Department: Stories of Courage, Dedication and Service which received a 2024 Bronze Telly Award in the “Government Relations Branded Content” category. Prior to that, she honed her journalistic skills as a local editor with Patch/AOL in the Northern Virginia area and then as an education reporter in Sumter, South Carolina.
Raytevia also has experience in the public sector, having served as a public information officer for Northern Virginia Community College where she focused on media relations and highlighting student, faculty, and staff success stories. She received a bachelor’s degree in English from Coastal Carolina University (Conway, SC) in 2008 and a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Kent State University (Kent, OH) in 2012. Raytevia is a 2023 Alexandria Chamber of Commerce 40 Under 40 Honoree and a 2012 recipient of the Robert G. McGruder Student Media Excellence in Advancing Diversity Award issued by Kent State University. Raytevia is a South Carolina native.
