The Reimagined Brand

New Name, Same Commitment

When Volunteers of America was founded in 1896, our name reflected the profound commitment of our founders, who devoted their hearts, spirits, and lives to serving people in need. At that time, “volunteer” represented not simply an act of service, but a calling and lifelong commitment to do good in the world. While the meaning of volunteerism has evolved, the purpose at the heart of our name remains unchanged: to provide compassionate human services that empower individuals and strengthen local communities.

In 2026, we shortened our name to VOA–reflecting how many people already know us and clarify that our work extends beyond volunteerism as it is commonly understood today. Presently, VOA’s staff of 15,000 paid professionals carry forward our founders’ legacy of service, helping people in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. We deeply value the dedicated volunteers who strengthen our programs and communities, while recognizing that VOA has always represented a broader, sustained commitment to providing compassionate human services.

Our new brand reflects how we are evolving, while our commitment remains unchanged: helping people in need build healthy, safe and productive lives. For 130 years, VOA has been there for children, families, older adults, veterans, and anyone seeking support. As one united VOA, we are strengthening our shared mission and our ability to build a better future for the people and communities.
